Professor Anna Efimovna Yankovskaya, whom I have known since 1980, is one of the most well-known and prominent of the living Russian scientists working in the field of theory of computing systems design, a veteran and at the same time an active researcher. She has been active throughout the entire history of Russian computing. For the last half century, she explored a large number of innovative directions in the Soviet Union and in Russia. The results of her research are also known abroad. As a researcher, Anna Efimovna is characterized by an unusual and even selfless dedication to the scientific pursuit. This dedication has become legendary, and stories of her as passed to new generations of students and young scientists. This aspect is very important for understanding of her character and personality.
Anna Efimovna is a kind, sensitive and open person, ready to share her knowledge with others, to help people. Being a honest, open and even naive person, she grants other people the presumption of honesty, and this makes her very different from most. Anna Efimovna's active participation in life is amazing. She is always ready to take a long business trip, either across Russia or across the world. Personal inconveniences, health -- these considerations all become secondary when the trip is necessary for the advancement of the field to which she has dedicated her life. Anna Efimovna is a decent person and one worthy of respect, and this reputation is well-known.

I have known Anna Efimovna Yankovskaya for about 60 years, from working together in the cybernetics department of the Siberian Institute of Physics and Technology (SIPT) at Tomsk State University (TSU), and the faculty of informatics at TSU, at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at TSU, in the Dissertation Council for the defense of doctorate dissertations at TSU,
- First as a junior scientist, then as a candidate and doctor of technical sciences, a high-class specialist in the field of discrete mathematics and artificial intelligence, author of hundreds of scientific papers published in prestigious domestic and foreign scientific journals and other publications, a participant in many domestic and foreign scientific conferences, a highly respected scientist and
- A very good person, honest, decent, responsive, always ready to help, enjoying great authority and respect among colleagues, conflict-free, able to interact with other people, work in a team, respectfully treat others.
Poddubny Vasily Vasilievich,
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology, Professor of the Department of Applied Informatics of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, National Research Tomsk State University. 26.05.2021.
Anna Efimovna Yankovskaya is a legendary person. Without her, it is absolutely impossible to imagine the development of research in the field of computer science and, first of all, in the field of artificial intelligence in the second half of the 20th century in the USSR and various applications of this research, especially in the field of medicine.
The uniqueness of Anna Efimovna lies not only in her brilliant scientific abilities (in the unique ability to see non-obvious causal patterns of complex processes, to see the deep flaws of various approaches to solving complex problems), but also the fact that she is the soul and moral authority of the entire scientific community, ready to provide moral and other support to any colleague in a difficult situation. Anna Efimovna always actively maintains contact with her colleagues, for example, when a group of scientists moved from Tomsk to Minsk, Anna Efimovna became a frequent guest of our city.
The uniqueness of Anna Efimovna lies in the fact that throughout her life she retained a naive, child-like, romantic attitude towards life, often thinking about people much better than they deserve. This, on the one hand, won universal love for her, and, on the other hand, turned her into a human catastrophe, with whom the most incredible events regularly occur. She still does not understand how it is possible to engage in such a holy cause as the development of science and pursue any other selfish goals; she hardly recognizes people who imitate good intentions and who are capable of betrayal.
I met Anna Efimovna at one of the first conferences on artificial intelligence held by the then Soviet Association for Artificial Intelligence. Since then, I have developed the warmest friendly relations with her. Previously, we met at least once a year at conferences, where we discussed issues of concern to us in the development of artificial intelligence. Now, unfortunately, we communicate only via Skype, but we are still discussing the scientific problems that concern us.
